The land on which we gather, and of which the City of Toronto operates, is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This land is encompassed within the Dish with One Spoon territory, a treaty forged among the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Anishinaabek, and allied nations, with the purpose of collaboratively sharing and preserving the land, its waters, and all the biodiversity within the Great Lakes region.
SOAR Initiative Canada acknowledges our duty to recognize the historical and persistent legacy of colonialism, along with our complicity in perpetuating its continued impacts today. Indigenous Peoples continue to struggle to protect their lands and waters from settler colonization and capitalism; they face disproportionate marginalization, impoverishment, racism, and a distressing epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. SOAR Initiative Canada gratefully acknowledges these nations, and all Indigenous Peoples living across Turtle Island for their continued guardianship of this land.
